What one podcast taught me about business relationships

One conversation with Adrian Bryan created enquiries, business and a lasting relationship. The experience reinforced why relationships and follow-through sit at the centre of my approach to growth.

How can a podcast appearance create wider business opportunities?

Sharing experience on a podcast can create visibility and new conversations. Gavin’s appearance with Adrian Bryan led to enquiries and an ongoing personal and professional relationship. The example shows why following through on a conversation matters beyond its initial purpose.

Take the first step

Being a guest on Adrian’s podcast was my first experience of doing something like that. I was nervous, but I went ahead and shared my story.

It created enquiries and business. What became more important to me was the relationship that developed afterwards.

Let the relationship develop

Adrian and I became friends. We went on to complete a Hyrox together for charity, raising over £2,450, and signed up to take on more events. He also became my accountant.

None of that was the original plan for the podcast. It grew from the conversation and the time we spent building the relationship.

Keep an open view of opportunity

In commercial work, it is useful to understand what you want to achieve. It is also useful to leave room for relationships to develop in ways you cannot predict at the start.

A meeting might lead to a customer, an introduction, a professional adviser or someone who challenges and supports you. The quality of the relationship matters beyond the first transaction.

Stay involved after the introduction

Relationships sit at the centre of Momentum and Gain Momentum because growth depends on trust as well as visibility. Make the introduction, deliver on your word and keep the conversation moving.

If you have been putting off a conversation, an event or an opportunity to share your experience, consider taking that first step. Then make time for what follows.
